Synopsis

In 1990, at a time when motorsport was almost exclusively a men’s world, a woman gambled on a concept considered utopian at the time: the creation of a rally raid for women only. And as if that were not enough, she decided that this rally would not be a race for speed, but be based on navigation: a major challenge for the participants.

That is how Dominique Serra, a woman with ideas ahead of her time, came to create the now-famous Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles du Maroc.

27 years later, it is clear that her gamble paid off: the 9 teams of the inaugural edition have grown to 180, and the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles du Maroc has become a reference for the world of motor sport.
Dominique Serra has succeeded in changing attitudes and overcoming stereotypes: No, motorsports are not just for men, and Yes, such an event can be organized by a woman!

But more than that, she extended her commitment to the people of the remote regions in Morocco where the competition takes place. Through Coeur de Gazelles non-profit association and the contribution of participating sponsors, the Rallye provides free medical care for those in need.

Always ahead of her time, Dominique Serra has even made the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles du Maroc the only rally in the world to be certified ISO 14001 for environmental management.
We wanted to get to know the real Dominique Serra by delving into the heart of her rally and her convictions.

A portrait of a woman with a big heart.
