The Prologue: a good performance

For this Prologue under the hot afternoon sun, the teams left 5 by 5, every 2 minutes, each team following the heading for their first checkpoint. While some drove left, others took a heading of 84°...

Last briefing before the Prologue

The competitors gathered in the main tent for a last briefing before the much-awaited prologue. This afternoon they will drive a short leg of about 3 hours, an opportunity to apply their driving and navigating to actual desert conditions and get the feel of the terrain.  The Sporting Director states "This is not a very difficult route; I hope that you will all spend the night at the bivouac tonight... last year several teams did not come back at the end of the Prologue." We will find out in a few hours!

The Gazelles reach the bivouac...

12:00 noon. The sun is at its zenith, shining brightly on the Gazelles as they arrive at the bivouac. A light breeze stirs the bright banners, decorated in the colours of the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles du Maroc and its 2010 partners, as if to emphasize the emotion of the moment...

From vista to vista... all the way to Erfoud

While the road may be long, landscape follows landscape in a succession of breathtaking vistas. At an altitude of 2000 metres, the dusty road cuts straight through a vast arid plateau, plunging the participants into a setting worthy of the greatest westerns...

The Gate of the Desert at last

The Gazelles are nearly there! The 300 members of the Rallye's organization started arriving at the first bivouac early yesterday morning, and continued until late into the night...
