Having become legendary throughout the years, the official finish in the beach in Essaouira is always a must. After
a day of driving, the Gazelles and organizers are invited to a
welcoming dinner offered by Royal Air Maroc at the Atlas Hotel. On
Saturday morning the vehicles take one last drive, along the beach this
time, at low tide, to finish the race before a cheering crowd. The
Gazelles, their guests and their sponsors enjoy a welcome drink in
Berber tents set up on the beach before making their way to the prize
giving ceremony. The prize giving takes place in an enormous white
tent at the entrance to the Medina. The Gazelles are greeted by a guard
of honour formed by the event's organizers, 160 in number this year.
For the first time the Gazelles then form a guard of honour themselves,
for the organizers... Emotions are running high! On the stage, Dominique Serra thanks everyone, and is followed by: the Governor
of Essaouira, the director of Aïcha, Title Partner of the rally for 17
years, representatives of Total France and Total Morocco, rally
partners since 1999, a representative of Brasseries du Maroc who
supplied 15,000 bottles of Cristaline drinking water and 25,000 cans of
Feyrouz soda pop.
